Hello Reader, Happy Mid-July! Mid-Juh-what? How did that happen? Somehow, summer is nearly over. Let's get started! First up, let's talk about Family is Family. This has been a big project---bigger as the deadlines loom. Six authors, six novellas, one setting, and one crazy cast of characters. Each book takes place during the fall holiday season in the small town of Blue Spruce Hills, Pennsylvania. Has anyone been to the Poconos? Yeah, that's the place. A place of evergreens, quaint towns, and great people. Set your calendar, because the first book launches September 1st. Family is Family is the second book in the series and follows Violet McFadden, a divorced mother of four who is inextricably tied to her husband. They swap houses and apartments so their girls will never need two bedrooms and co-own a small, struggling bookstore. Trapped in her life and telling herself all her sacrifices are for her daughters, she can't help but wonder what her life would have looked like if she severed ties sooner. I should get the book back from my proofreader in two weeks and hope to have it up for early readers by August 15th.
Have you heard the song Amazing by Aerosmith? I heard that on the radio the other day, and Violet's face flashed through my mind. That song was written for her. And I know the video showcases teenagers, but the lyrics apply to my middle-aged mother of four. If you haven't heard it yet, listen to the lyrics. That is the song about Violet McFadden. Next up is my passion project (yet to be named). It's women's fiction with a twist. A fairy twist. A changeling twist. With leprechauns and a new troll friend. I'm already 21,000 words in, and with each 1,000-word addition, my plantsing mind comes up with another twist. Will I publish it? Who knows, but it certainly is fun to stretch myself. Last up is reading recommendations! This is what I'm reading (and loving). A Heartbeat at My Feet is a heartwarming story about a woman who escapes to Italy during her divorce and falls in love with a stray dog. This is a matchmaking story about a heartbroken woman and a grumpy Italian who come together with the help of their dog. It's also an Amazon Free Reads for July, so check it out! Fredrik Backman....I am speechless, I just love him. He is so stinking funny. I'm listening to the audiobook and not only is the narrator amazing, but the story itself is entertaining, fun, heartwarming, and humorous. I haven't started reading The Stolen Letter, but it takes place in Scotland. After seeing the Tartan Army invade Boston for the World Cup, I fell in love with their love of life.
